compliment or not?

Yesterday after Sacrament meeting, the person who had been sitting in front of us turned around and said hello, asked us what our callings were, and commented on each calling.  Then to conclude the conversation, this person said "Well, you're good patient parents" 

Is it just me, or is this a polite way of saying our kids drove them crazy?!!

We got a good laugh out of it anyway.
